My artwork is eclectic and varying. It’s an honest representation of myself. I enjoy exploring all mediums, from ceramics to papermaking, and have found a way to infuse and express my creative views with visual art. Having received a BA in Art from The University of Iowa, I was able to develop my technical skills using these wide variety of materials, as well as mature my conceptual abilities and foster my creativity in an academic setting. While I use a variety of materials and processes in each project, they are linked by recurring formal concerns and my aesthetic remains consistent.

Like the mediums I use, the subject matter of my art also spans a wide variety of topics. A few include: minimum wage jobs and being utterly underemployed, the complexities within individuals, friendship, the beauty of simplicity & function, empowering women and art for arts sake.

In photography, discovering and depicting different and new representations of things we pass by everyday, in the form of abstracts, portraits and stills, are all of interest. Particularly, my passion for music often draws me to the task of concert photographer. Trying to capture the movement, sound and feel of a live show in the form of a static picture is one of my favorite challenges. Here, my training as a classical musician, as well as an artist, come together in perfect accord.

With other mediums of art, the aspects of texture, light and the use of opposing materials are of great concentration.

Overall though, I hope my empathy informs my work. Often referencing personal trials and tribulations, as well as successes and high points throughout life, I strive to evoke a truly personal and palpable experience for everyone viewing my art. Some inspirations are truly self-specific, whereas others are experienced by people far-and-wide. Whatever the jumping point for each piece or series, one of my favorite aspects of art is it’s ability to mean vastly different things to different people.

While I use fine art as an outlet to express myself through the inspiration I see everyday, I hope audiences enjoy a moving, creative and maybe even thought-provoking experience with every view.
